We Tried Out Balance Health for an All-In-One Treatment

Aromatherapy, acupuncture, singing bowl, CBD facial massage—what did we think?

Nowadays, we are exposed to many types of medicines and treatments—sometimes we don’t even know what’s best! Balance Health is a natural health clinic integrating conventional and complementary medicine. The clinic offers massage therapy, acupuncture, classical Feng Shui, and much more. Balance Health believes no single system of medicine has the answers to every medical problem, so they provide these treatments in hopes of helping Hong Kongers achieve health and well-being in body, mind, emotions and spirit.

Chika wanted to find out more about the integrative treatment approach, so I paid Balance Health a visit and met with Chinese medicine practitioner, Dr. Michelle Zhang, and holistic healer, Hafsa Khan. Read on to discover how my sessions with them went!

The Ambience

The clinic occupies a medium-small space in Central for all the services that it offers. In the waiting area, we could help ourselves to water or warm herbal tea if we pleased. It was definitely not as cold as a regular, conventional clinic in Hong Kong, but it still had the serious atmosphere of on]. There was a treatment room in the clinic along with a few practitioners’ offices. It was overall very clean, and blankets were offered in case you got cold in the treatment room.

The Treatment

For the first 50 minutes of my 100-minute treatment, I met with a Chinese medicine practitioner, Dr. Michelle Zhang for a health consultation. She asked about my general health, checked my pulse, inspected parts of my body like my skin and tongue, then provided her analysis on my health. After I told her about my health, sleep, appetite and more, she said that she could tell that I was undergoing a stressful time as my body showed indications. After the consultation, she offered me CBD herbal tea with about 15-20 mg of CBD. Then she began the treatment with mild aromatherapy to help me relax, then she performed acupuncture on my face and ankles. Once all the needles were in and I was comfortable, she used a singing bowl over my body to create vibrations throughout my body.

I spent the next 50 minutes with Hafsa Khan, a holistic healer, receiving a CBD facial massage. Because I was already relaxed from my session with Dr. Zhang, Hafsa guided me through a quick breathing meditative practice to keep me in a relaxed state then started the facial. For the bulk of the session, she put several CBD products and oils on my face, massaging them into my skin gently. Afterwards, she used an Amethyst crystal infused mask to hydrate and rejuvenate my skin. Then at the end of the session, she used face rollers and gua sha to continue to rub in the products, then gave me a quick jaw and neck massage. Compared to regular facials, Hafsa’s facial massage helps loosen tissues to improve blood flow around the face, in addition to hydrating your skin. Her procedure ensures the treatment reaches the cellular level to renew and rejuvenate your skin. Finally, her facial massage also releases tension in your jaw and neck, which you don’t normally realise are tensed!

Our Verdict

Overall, I really enjoyed my session at Balance Health. My consultation with Dr. Zhang provided great insight into how my body was reacting to the stressors in my life. It made me aware of how my body was a great reflection of how I was feeling, and I felt like I learnt about my body and how it reacts in accordance with my feelings! The facial with Khan was soothing and relaxing. That night, my mom even said that I looked like I was glowing! I had a good experience at Balance Health. Since I only go to health consultations and facials when I need them, this was definitely beneficial for my skin, mental and emotional wellbeing.
